Course Descriptions
Beginning Band
Students will need their instrument and all required supplies by the time school starts in August. You will find a supply list on the "Beginning Band" page (link at left of this page).

Beginning classes are divided into like-instrument classes that meet during the school day.

The Beginning Band comes together for four performances each school year - the Fall, Winter and Spring Concerts, and the Cluster Concert. We will rehearse a few times after school in the weeks prior to each concert.

Beginners also participate in the Beginning Band Solo Festival in May.

Beginning Band members are tested over playing material that we cover each day in class. They are expected to practice daily, and are responsible for maintaining a practice journal.

Beginning Band members are also given an objective sheet to complete each six weeks. Copies of these objective sheets are available in the "Downloads" section.

The goals of beginning classes are to foster a lifetime love for making music and prepare the students for membership in one of our performing groups the following year.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is designed for students with one or more years of playing experience. Continued development of fundamentals, technique, and musicality are emphasized. In addition, ensemble skills will be developed through the rehearsal and performance of full band arrangements in a variety of styles. Students will have the option of participating in the auditions for the All Region band. Concert Band members are expected to participate in the Klein I.S.D. Solo and Ensemble contest as well as all Concert Band performances throughout the school year: the Fall Concert, the Winter Concert, the Pre-UIL concert, the cluster concert, and the Spring Concert. As long as instrumentation and eligibility permit, the Concert Band will participate in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in April, and will also participate in an additional contest or festival.

Concert Band members will be expected to attend a one hour sectional rehearsal once per week (see information regarding sectionals and sectional attendance).
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band consists of students with one or more years of playing experience who have achieved an above-average playing level on their instruments. Symphonic Band membership carries increased responsibilities and expectations. Emphasis is placed upon the continued development of fundamentals, technique, musicality, and ensemble skills. Students in the Symphonic Band will be expected to participate in All Region Band auditions and the Klein I.S.D. Solo and Ensemble Contest.

The Symphonic Band will give several performances throughout the year including the Fall Concert, the Winter Concert, the Pre-UIL concert, the cluster concert, and the Spring Concert. The Symphonic Band will participate in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest, as well as at least one other contest or festival. Select members of the Symphonic Band will be asked to take part in recruiting trips to the elementary campuses in the spring semester. The band also performs for a number of school-related functions such as the Wildcat Welcome Rally, the Spring Open House, and the 7th/8th Grade Awards.

Symphonic Band members will be expected to attend a one hour sectional rehearsal once per week. Band members may also be expected to attend a few clinic rehearsals in March and/or April as we prepare for contest.
