Advanced Boys and Advanced Girls Choir:

Membership: select 7th and 8th grade students

Meetings: during class and after-school rehersals are sometimes required

Activities: pre-UIL and UIL concerts and competitions...several concerts a year

Membership: 7th and 8th grade students - tryouts - participants are chosen by coaches of respective sports

Girls: Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Field, Tennis, & Swimming

Band - Symphonic and Concert:

Membership: chosen by audition

Meetings: in class and before or after school sectional rehersals required

Cheerleading:

Membership: 7th and 8th grade students - tryouts - NCA judges choose participants
*To try out, students must have a 77 average for the first semester and a 77 average when the 4th and 5th grading periods are combined in all classes. Students may have no more than one U in conduct.

Meetings: activities, practices, and games

Activities: basketball, football, and volleyball games; summer practices; after-school practices; and summer camp

Civil Air Patrol:

Membership: any interested student that would like to learn more about aerodynamics or the Air Force

Meetings: Mondays, 4:00-5:00 P.M.

Activities: field training exercises, shooting off rockets, following drill instructions, and land navigation

Destination Imagination:

Membership: all students with good grades, good behavior, and good writing skills

Meetings: mornings at 8:00 A.M., day decided by the team

Activities: Creative Problem Solving

G.E.M.S. - Giving Empowerment Motivation and Support:

Membership: Select 7th and 8th Grade Female Students

Purpose: To be an effective organization with the aim of empowering young ladies to recognize there own potential to be leaders in a personal and social context. The organization will allow young ladies opportunities to experience and participate in various activities while developing a satisfying sense of oneself.

Meetings: Every other Wednesday morning at 8:15 A.M.

Activities: Character development, mentoring, community service

Intramural Sports:

Membership: 6th grade students

Meetings: Girls and boys will begin meeting after Spring Break

Activities: Boys will play football and girls will play a variety of sports - just for fun!

Math Club:

Membership: 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students

Meetings: Wednesday afternoons until 5:00 and Friday mornings from 8:15 to 8:45

Activities: Math Contests

Memory Book Club:

Membership: Students currently enrolled in Desktop Publishing

Meetings: mornings and afternoons from November through February

Activities: Formatting and Design of Memory Book Pages

Orchestra - Beginning, Concert, Philharmonic, Symphony, and Chamber:

Membership: Beginning-any interested students; Concert, Philharmonic, Symphony, and Chamber-qualified by audition

Meetings: daily classes and sectionals as needed

Activities: concerts, solo and ensemble contests, UIL contests, and Galveston Island Festival

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS):

Membership: 7th and 8th grade students who meet requirements at the spring semester *Students must have a cumulative semester average of 90 or above with no U's in conduct and not more than one P. Eligible students are evaluated by faculty and chosen by a faculty committee.

Meetings: usually the first Wednesday of every month at 8:15 A.M.

Activities: staff school store, raise and lower flags, select and carry out a service project, provide ushers for Fall Open House, and host teacher appreciation luncheon

Pep Squad:

Membership: 7th and 8th grade students with no failing grades and excellent or satisfactory conduct

Meetings: Tuesdays after school

Activities: Step and Dance

S.T.A.R.S. (Speech and Theatre Arts Reign Supreme)

Membership: all students in speech and/or theatre arts

Meetings: Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons during competition preparation

Activities: speech competitions and festivals, pantomime, oratory, extemporaneous speaking, poetry, dramatics, prose, humorous, duets, reader's theatre, and lip-sync

Student Council:

Membership: elected 6th, 7th, and 8th graders

Meetings: every other Friday morning (8:00 A.M. for officers and 8:15 A.M. for full council) and some committee meetings before and after school

Activities: various school service and/or community service projects

Wildcats for Christ:

Membership: all students

Meetings: Wednesday afternoons from 4:10 to 5:15 P.M.

Activities: Christian fellowship, songs, games, scriptures, lessons, and guest speakers from all denominations
