The Spanish National Honor Society was established at KC in 2002 by Spanish teacher Evita Rduch and now runs under the sponsorship of Vilma Smith.

SNHS recognizes students who have shown an extended excellence in the study of the Spanish Language throughout HIGH SCHOOL (minimum 2 yrs of HS Spanish). Students can become members by invitation only. Some of the requirements are: students must be of sophomore standing or above, have an excellent academic record, and be enrolled in a Spanish course at the time of induction.

Our purpose is to celebrate the Spanish Language through SERVICE and SOCIAL events. Social events include weekly lunch gatherings at school, monthly meetings, restaurant outings, and may include (depending on availability and timing) film viewing, museum visits, special latin events/festivals/concert attendance, etc.

Members must complete the required service hours in order to remain an active participant, hence be able to wear their yellow & red honor cords during graduation ceremonies.

Ways to earn required hrs include, but are not limited to:
- tutoring/mentoring
- helping KC faculty/staff
- working on a particular SNHS project
- fundraising (selling items)
- purchasing an official KC SNHS t-shirt
- donating food items to the official “KC Food Pantry”
- attending social events

Monthly Meetings:
- 1st Thurs of each month
- 2:35pm - 3:05pm (.5 service hr earned)

#1 – Special Projects
(We will be wrapping cookies after school Tuesday December 6th, so please come out and help as this is a great opportunity to get hours! Also there is a service hour opportunity December 17th for Navidad En El Barrio. Please Google the title for more information or check the Facebook page! )

#2 – Help a teacher (.5 hr earned)
Be assigned to a Spanish language teacher and stop by their room before or after school to assist them in the classroom. Times are from 6:50-7:20 or 2:35-3:05. You and teacher coordinate day & time.

#3 - Tutor students (.25-.5 hr earned)
Meet with students who need help in their Spanish course every Thursday from 2:35-3:05pm. You will meet in the library and still earn .25 hrs if no one shows up!

#4 - Donations to KC Food Pantry (.25 - 3 hrs earned)

#5 - Albricias (3hrs - 8 hrs earned)
Talented in writing or drawing? Submit your essay, pencil drawing, or poem to our National Magazine.

#6 - Induction 2012 (9 total possible hrs earned)
Come help set up, serve, participate, or clean up
