Happy Thanksgiving 2008!
Students learned about the First Thanksgiving and how unique this holiday is for all Americans. After studying the history of this holiday, the students at Theiss celebrated Thanksgiving in a variety of ways. Students dressed up as pilgrims, Indians and turkeys, and enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast.
Special guests brought this lesson to life when they arrived to the feast dressed as Pilgrims and Native Americans. The guest explained the First Thanksgiving in America. We are very thankful for our volunteers too!

First Responder's Day
First Responder’s Day at Theiss was a special event. Everyone joined in to honor our service workers who provide emergency care to those in need. Theiss began the assembly with the R.O.T.C. from K.C.H.S. presenting the colors and leading our school in the pledge. Other heroes such as firemen, police officers, EMS workers, and military men who are on the scene to provide aid after a disaster were recognized and honored for their bravery. Students and staff wore red, white and blue to honor first responders.
Theiss recognized the support of first responders by gathering in the cafeteria for a school wide assembly.

Theiss Rules with Newscast Stars
The students love to be part of the Tiger Power News Cast Team!
Students at Theiss produce a live broadcast show for our morning announcements. Activities such as the pledge, moment of silence, weather report, science experiments, United Streaming videos, school news, singing and “Words of Wisdom “ are featured each day. Our Tiger Power Newscast Team (TPNT ) goes live each morning at 8:20 with fifth grade students anchoring the production. All fifth grade students are invited to participate. The only requirement is that they learn to present information to a large listening audience, with a smile on their face. Notable benefits are an increase of confidence, school pride, and participation. Students report the broadcast is “cool” because of the use of technology and fifth graders in every production.

“Words of Wisdom”, our closing piece, is a series of messages created to help students make better choices. Topics such as respecting differences, accepting diversity, making good choices, and overcome obstacles are some examples. Students are provided with a quote by a well-known person followed by a power point slide summarizing the message.

Once you see our Tiger Power Newscast Team you will never go back to the network morning news. Our closing “Make it a great day or not,the choice is yours...” is a great message for all of our Theiss listeners.
Go Tigers!!

Our Theiss PALS 2009
These wonderful helpers to our school brought a fabulous luncheon last Friday for all to share. What great role models for our students and what a wonderful program for future teachers.
HEB Provides All Theiss Students with Reusable Grocery Bags

"It has been like a sea of Green around here," reported Mrs. Keenan after the students received their bags. The students are using them at school for a 'really cool' book bag! HEB Rules!
