 Mr. Owen (Principal) E-Mail
It is an exciting time at Strack. We have received both the Math and Reading TAKS results for our 8th graders and the results are fantastic! In Math, nearly 95% of all students passed the test. There were no subgroups that had a passing rate any lower than 85%. These were the highest scores in Klein ISD among intermediate schools. Eighth grade Reading scores showed that more than 98% of all students passed and no sub group scored any lower than a 91% passing rate. These were the second highest scores in the district (by only ½ of one percentage point). These scores reflect a tremendous commitment by the students, teachers, and families. All of the hard work is paying off! Students, teachers and parents should be rightfully pleased by this success. More TAKS testing will be taking place the week of April 28th for all grade levels. We look forward to great results on those tests as well.
Spring is a busy time of year at Strack. Strack students competed in the Klein Academic Competition on March the 7th. Strack students took home nineteen top six finishes in the competitive areas of Spelling, Ready Writing, Problem Solving, Science, and History. As a school, Strack finished in third place in Spelling, third place in Problem Solving, second place in Science, and first place in History. This was a wonderful showing by a group of dedicated students.
The “Fear This” team won first place in the Destination Imagination regional competition held at Klein Collins High school in February. The team went on to compete at the state competition in Austin in early April. This was the first year for Strack to compete in the Destination Imagination program that encourages creative problem solving while helping to develop both creative and critical thinking skills. Strack fielded three teams this year and hopes to grow to include even more involvement next year. The successful competition and participation of all of the Strack DI teams showed that this is a program that students can get excited about and can enjoy.
Strack Athletics have continued to be competitive this spring. The boy’s and girl’s track teams competed in a variety of meets throughout the spring. Several all time Strack records fell this year. Congratulations to all of the track participants on all of their hard work and accomplishments. Tennis and swimming are in full swing now. They have also been showing signs of great success as well.
Strack Speech and Drama competed in the Klein ISD One Act Festival on April 19th at Klein High School. The students made a wonderful presentation of “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood”. This satirical play was full of laughter and excellent performances. The students had a great performance and were rewarded by the creation of a special award to recognize them for their great attitude, behavior, focus, and general approach to the whole process. This was a great honor and speaks volumes about the dedicated approach of these students.
The Strack Choirs competed in their yearly UIL competition recently. The choirs; girls’, boys’, and mixed; all received the very highest ratings possible. Once again, this is evidence of the hard work and talent of these students. Orchestra and band will be competing in their UIL competitions in the coming weeks.
The Strack National Junior Honor Society induction for 2008 took place in a nighttime ceremony on April 17th. 134 7th and 8th grade students were inducted into the Strack Intermediate NJHS. It is a great honor for these students to gain membership in this organization. Induction recognizes students for excelling in five different traits: citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship and character. Congratulations students!
The Klein ISD Bond Referendum will be held on Saturday, May 10th. You can read about the bond proposal on the Klein ISD web page at: www.kleinisd.net/default.aspx?name=kisd.08bond.home. Voting on election day will take place at the elementary school to which your home is zoned. Early voting has begun at the Klein ISD central office and will also be taking place at various elementary schools on different days. You can see specific information regarding voting times and dates at: www.kleinisd.net/docs/1-08.vote.pdf. The bond proposal addresses needs throughout the district. However, if you wish to see detailed information about how the bond will impact Strack Intermediate, please see the following web page: www.kleinisd.net/docs/1-08.Strack.pdf. It is important that everyone make their voice heard by casting your vote on the bond referendum.
As we head toward the end of the school year, I ask you to join me in encouraging our students to remain focused on their school work. The majority of a six week grading period still remains ahead of them.
I want to thank all of you, the parents, for your efforts with your children and your support of Strack Intermediate. We all make a difference together.
