Students are allowed to check out up to three books at a time for a period of two weeks. A Date Due card is placed in the back of each book that is checked out. Students may turn books in at any time, either before school, between classes, at lunch, after school, or with their English class. Once books become overdue, a fine of 5 cents a day will begin to acrue. Students will not be able to check out new items if their library record indicates an overdue book, fine, or lost book charge. Replacement costs will be charged for any lost or damaged items.

The Lone Star Reading Contest is composed of books chosen from the The Texas Lone Star Reading List. This is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table. The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grades 6,7, and 8 to explore a variety of current books and genres. After reading one of the books, students can come by the library and take a short quiz. When quizzes are passed, the students will win a pencil. A list of the Lone Star books for the 2012-2013 school year is available on this webpage.
