ATTENDANCE COUNTS!

YOUR CHILD'S SUCCESS BEGINS WITH ATTENDANCE!

Every child enrolled in school in Texas must attend. The state compulsory attendance law allows for legal action, if non-attendance is an issue. As a parent, you are in the best position to help your children understand the benefits of regular attendance.

You can help in the following ways:

Tell your child it is important to get to school every day and on time, so they can learn more.

If your child makes excuses to stay home from school, take the time to listen to their concerns. Have regular communication with the school about any issues.

Post the school calendar, and plan your vacations and appointments outside of school time.

Monitor your child's attendance through Klein ISD's Parent Connection.

Click on the "Parent Connection" link from the district homepage, www.kleinisd.net.

Report excused absences in a timely manner to the attendance office.
Texas Assessment Management System STUDENT PORTAL Now Available

The Student Portal is now available through the Texas Assessment Management System, delivered through PearsonAccess. The portal provides students and parents access to scores from the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), including TAKS–Modified (but not including TAKS–Alternate), and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS).

The assessment data in the Student Portal are reached through a Unique Access Code and the student’s birth date as provided on the student’s most recent Confidential Student Report. Students who have lost their Confidential Student Report are instructed to contact their campus to retrieve their Unique Access Code. This same code will be used to access State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) scores in the next assessment year.

Specific features of the Student Portal include the following:
·        viewing student assessment results over the course of a student’s academic career
·        comparing individual student TAKS assessment results to campus, district, and state averages (Comparisons are not available for exit level retests.)
·        examining student performance on TAKS, including individual student scale scores and objective scores
·        examining a student’s TELPAS proficiency ratings, comprehension scores, and composite score/rating

The Student Portal can be accessed by entering www.TexasAssessment.com/Students in a Web browser. This will take users to the Families tab of the Texas Assessment website. From that location, students and parents can click a link that will take them to the Student Portal login page. They are also able to view a guide to the Student Portal and access additional information about the TAKS and TELPAS assessments. Once students and parents have logged in, they will be able to examine test scores in detail, as well as access the guide and explanations of test scores.

For additional information about the Texas Assessment Management System, visit the Frequently Asked Questions page on the Texas Assessment website at www.TexasAssessment.com/AMS-FAQs. Contact Pearson's Austin Operations Center at 800-627-0225 with any questions.

Certain information about Klein ISD students is considered directory information and must be released to anyone who follows procedures for requesting the information, unless the parent objects to the release of any or all directory information about the student. If you do not want the KISD to disclose directory information from your child’s education without your prior written consent, you must notify the district in writing. The KISD has designated the following information as directory information: a student’s name, address, telephone number, electronic e-mail address, date and place of birth, dates of attendance, grade level, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, honors and awards received in school, major field of study, degrees, and most recent previous school attended. If you have not done so previously and you do not want this information released, please complete the attached copy of the form from the student handbook and have your child return it to school. If the form is not signed and returned the KISD is required to release the information.
