Peg Kehret comes to Roth via Email
Mrs. Draper's 5th grade GT class has written by email to Mrs. Kehret. Here are the letters they exchanged where the class commented on her story about her childhood experiences when she had polio. We are excited to have a published author write to our own students. Yeah class - you must be very pleased that Mrs. Kehret took time to write to all of you!! This is a very memorable moment.

These students from Mrs. Draper's class wrote this email as part of their study on Peg Kehret's book "Small Steps."
Inspirational Book - Small Steps
Dear Peg Kehret,
We're reading your book Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio. So far we all love it and we are four chapters away from finishing and we can't get enough of it. We can't wait to read some of your other books. Do you know what happened to Tommy after you got better? Are you and your roomates still in touch with each other, if you are then how are they? We hope to hear back from you soon.

Peg Kehret Replies:
Dear Mrs. Draper and her students:

I'm glad to know you are enjoying "Small Steps." It was a hard book to write because I had to stick to the truth! When I write fiction, I can just make things up.

I did keep in touch with my roommates over the years. When "Small Steps" was first published, I had a reunion with Dorothy and Renee. I had talked to Alice on the phone while I was writing the book, but she died before it got published. Dorothy and I are the only remaining roommates, as Renee died last year of complications from post-polio syndrome. I never found out what happened to Tommy. I do still hear from Dr. Bevis, and he is fine. So is my brother, Art.

Maybe you'd like to read my other autobiography, "Five Pages a Day," which tells about the rest of my life and how I became an author.

Your friend,
Peg Kehret
