Dear Students and Parents,

As we are approaching the end of the first semester, I would like to share some thoughts and information with you. The children are quite the mathematicians as we move rapidly through the second grade math curriculum. We are currently focusing on 2 digit addition and subtraction. Please check your child to see if he/she knows his/her addition and subtraction facts. Please practice 2 digit addition/subtraction with your child at home. We have also worked on counting money. Counting money will need much review. The children are improving reading comprehension skills daily. Students are learning strategies to become good second grade readers. I have started the Middle of the Year reading assessment, and reading levels have increased since the Beginning of the Year assessment. That is exciting to see the growth! Please continue to have students read at night to improve their independent reading stamina.

I hope that all of you have a wonderful and very restful Christmas break. Enjoy spending time with family. Much of my time will be spent in Ft. Worth with my father. My husband, son, and daughter-in-law will join me there, and we will cherish every minute of the time with him.
