Learning Is An Amazing Adventure
Freshmen AVID Class
Welcome to a journey that will place you on the road to success in high school, college, and in life.

AVID(Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college preparatory program that focuses on a rigorous high school curriculum.

AVID freshmen will learn and practice:
organizational skills
study skills
time management
critical thinking
inquiry using probing questions
community building

Students will receive academic help from peers and tutors.
They will also participate in enrichment and motivational activities that reinforce the message that their college dream is attainable.

Your commitment and participation in the AVID program is a huge step to success.

In the wonderful words of Dr. Seuss:

"You have brains in your head
and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own and you know what you know. And you are the one who'll decide where to go."

Let's get started on this amazing journey. I'll be with you every step of the way!

Welcome to AVID!

CREDIT RECOVERY
Credit Recovery is a web-based course generated by E2020 that provides students the opportunity to regain credits lost after unsuccessfully completing course work needed to meet the requirements for a Texas high school diploma.

Students spend one class period per day regaining lost credits.
They may also continue to work at home, before and after school.
Tests and quizzes, however, must be completed during the student's credit recovery class time.

Students are expected to keep a notebook or spiral, take written notes, stay focused on the goals of credit recovery, have excellent attendance in class, and practice a mature work ethic.

It is imperative that credit recovery students have the determination and the goal of acquiring the credit(s) necessary for high school graduation.

As your teacher, I am committed to creating a successful learning environment, offering extended lab time for continued work, supporting you with positive encouragement, and helping you stay focused on your goals and your future.
Communication Applications
Communication Applications is a course designed to teach the skills and strategies needed to become a successful communicator in a variety of "real life" situations.

The course will provide a "how-to" approach that helps build student self-confidence and the development of practical, everyday skills for both professional and social communication.

Practical application of these skills will strengthen the student's ability to communicate appropriately and effectively.
