| Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Nancy Murphy. I enjoy teaching kindergarten. I love to see children learn and connect to reading and writing. There is nothing like that first experience in learning to read and write.
We will learn and explore in all the academic areas with as much "hands on" experiences as possible. I set high expectations in my class, and I believe every child can reach his/her full potential for the school year.
Thank you for sharing your child with me this year! |

The Basics |
Please make sure you label your child's backpack, lunch box, and clothing with a permanent marker. This is a great help to us because we have so many items that are alike, especially with our dress code.
If your child is to change his/her normal way of going home, a note must be sent stating the change for that day. Word of mouth is not acceptable. In an emergency you may contact the office. A note also needs to be sent for an early dismissal. This also helps me to have your child ready to go with backpack and folders. |

Lunch Money, Daily Behavior Folders, Tuesday Folders |
Your child has been assigned a pin account number from the cafeteria. They are to memorize this number. Please practice with your child on the sample grid sent home. When sending money to school, please place it in an envelope with your child's full name, teacher's name and pin account number. Please put it in the daily folder instead of your child's backpack. Breakfast and lunch prices:
Child's breakfast: $1.00
Child's lunch: $1.75
Daily behavior folders will be sent home to keep you informed of your child's behavior. A stamp will be placed in the box if your child has had a great day. If there is an area that your child needs to work on, I will write a note. Please be sure and check your child's folder each day and return it the next day. I tell my students it is their responsibility to be sure you do this and return it to their backpack before returning to school the next day.
Every Tuesday a folder will be sent home for review. As the daily folder is for behavior, this folder is more for you to see how your child is doing academically and his/her work habits. Please be sure and review this folder and return it to by Wednesday. This is the most effective way to keep you informed of your child's progress. |

Standardized Dress |
Students should come to school wearing standardized dress.
1. Shirts: Navy blue, red or white polo style shirt for boys or blouses for girls. Shirts and blouses must have a collar and no emblem. No t-shirts are allowed.
2. Navy blue or khaki pants, skorts, shorts, jumpers, or skirt.
3. Rubber sole shoes with heels and toe. (Tennis shoes for P.E. only - no sandals or dress shoes allowed on gym floor.)
4. A belt for boys and girls wearing pants or shorts with belt loops. The belts must be black, brown, or navy. (Please help your child practice fastening his/her pants, and belts.)
Klenk t-shirts are only allowed to be worn on Fridays with jeans. Sweaters or jackets to be worn inside the classroom must be the standardized dress colors - navy, red, or white and with no emblem.
It is a good idea to send an extra change of clothes, especially at the beginning of the year. Sometimes we do have accidents, even with spilled milk or mud.

Grading Guidelines |
All Klein ISD elementary schools will have four nine week grading periods. Our students receive "letter grades" instead of "number grades".
E=Exceeds expectations
S=Satisfactory
N=Needs improvement
U=Unsatisfactory
These are explained further below:
E=Exceeds Expectations - a child earns an "E" by consistently performing above and beyond grade level expectations and taking it upon himself/herself to do more than asked or required.
S=Satisfactory - a child earns an "S" by MEETING grade level expectations. The child performs in an acceptable manner and completes assignments well.
N=Needs Improvement - a child earns an "N" by not meeting grade level expectations. The child's performance needs additional practice and reinforcement.
U=Unsatisfactory - a child earns a "U" when his or her performance falls below grade level. The child needs additional reinforcement, practice, skill review, and evaluation. |
