Preparing Lemm's Garden
The planning stage of our project provided opportunities for our students to apply the measurement skills they have learned in the classroom to the real world. Kindergarten students and fourth grade students worked together to problem-solve the best ways to measure the perimeter of the garden. Using that information, students determined the quantity of fencing supplies that were needed to protect the garden. The digital camera provided by the grant was used to capture active learning in progress.
Tilling the soil was the first step in the development of our garden site. Thank you, Mr. Steele.
Students used links as a nonstandard form of measurement.
The links were color-coded in sets of ten to provide opportunities for counting by tens.
The fourth grade students demonstrated leadership skills during this process.
Fourth grade students recorded the measurement data while kindergarteners measured the garden.
The garden needed a fence.
The fence outlines the perimeter of the garden.
