Kuehnle Elementary’s environmental club P.E.A.K. (Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids) is made up of 15 fourth and fifth grade students. The students met after school to develop a sense of ownership for the outdoors, understand how to be safe and prepared, learn to reduce their impact on the environment while enjoying the outdoors, and practice making responsible decisions. The 8-week program culminated with a hike at Meyer Park, where students enjoyed a nature scavenger hunt and picked up a lot of trash on hiking trails. P.E.A.K. members wanted to do more to help the environment, starting right on our campus. They are making a valuable contribution to Kuehnle by initiating and running our first-ever plastic bottle recycling program. P.E.A.K members have recycled over 10,000 bottles to date! What a great way to take care of our environment! Additionally, we have helped another elementary school. Our recycled bottles are taken to a school that receives money for recycled plastic bottles. P.E.A.K. supports kids helping kids! |
