Immunization Updates
-Must have a tetanus booster every 10 years.

-Most freshman would need this shot.

-Proof must be provided to the school nurse.

-Shots taken this spring should be turned into the intermediate school nurse.

-If you are delinquent in getting this shot, you will be denied a schedule and will not be able to attend the freshman orientation in August.

-Contact your pediatrician or school nurse if you have any questions.
Is your child sick?
Children who are sick need to stay home until they are well. Any child with a fever may not return to school until they are fever FREE for 24 hours w/out using medication. Encourage good hand washing, lots of rest and fluids.
Immunization Requirements (Ages 7 and older):
-Two doses of measles vaccine for students born on or after 9/2/91. For students born on or after 9/1/78, a second dose of measles vaccine is required by 30 days after the child's 12th birthday. Serologic confirmation of measles immunity will satisfy either requirement.
-One dose of rubella vaccine on or after the 1st birthday or serologic confirmation of rubella immunity
-One dose of mumps vaccine on or after 1st birthday or serologic confirmation of mumps immunity
-Three doses of polio vaccine including one received on or after fourth birthday
-Three doses of DTP/DTaP/Td including one received on or after fourth birthday and one dose within the past 10 years
-Children born on or after September 2, 1988 must have three doses hepatitis B vaccine.
(Series of 3, completed by their 12th birthday)
-Children born between September 2, 1988 and September 1, 1992 (inclusive) must have one dose of varicella vaccine received on or after 1st birthday or by their 12th birthday. Serologic proof of immunity or documentation of previous illness may substitute for vaccination. Previous illness may be documented by a written statement from a physician, school nurse or the child's/student's parent or guardian containing wording such as: "This is to verify that (name of student) had varicella disease (chicken pox) on or about (date) and does not need a varicella vaccine."
Medication Policy:
Medication Policy:
Beginning with the 2002-03 school year, all prescription medication must be delivered to the clinic by the parent or guardian. Also, medications will no longer be sent home with students. This new procedure is being implemented for the safety of your children and to bring Klein ISD in line with other school districts in our area. We hope that this will not cause too much inconvenience to you. It is our goal to keep all of your children as safe as possible. Please call the clinic at 832-375-7211 if you have any questions.
Administering Medication:
Klein school personnel are not permitted to give medication of any kind, including aspirin, similar preparations, or any other drugs, unless the parent requests in writing that there is a need for such medication and the parent provides the medication. If the circumstances are questionable, the school employee reserves the right to deny the parent's request. Students will be scheduled to come to the clinic for medicines. Due to the large number of medicines each day, a request to administer medication may result in lost instructional time each day.
If prescription medicine is required, it must be in its original container, kept in locked storage in the office of the school nurse or of the principal's designee, and administered by the nursing staff or a school employee. The school may accept a sufficient quantity of medicine for one month. Upon receipt, the medicine will be inventoried and discrepancies reported to parents.
The above is not intended to prevent a student from having in his or her possession and taking aspirin, allergy tablet, or other similar nonprescription medication during the school day. The medication must be in its original container. It is strongly recommended that the student go to the clinic or nurse's office, since the consumption of pills in any form during the school day or on the school campus increases the likelihood of a student being mistakenly charged with a violation of the district's policy on drug abuse.
Over the counter medications may only be kept at the school for two weeks unless a doctor's order is provided to the health clinic.
Medication with limited duration will be administered for the time prescribed on the label, and any leftover medicine not picked up by the parent will be destroyed after two weeks.
