About the Library |
All K-5 students come to the library on a weekly basis for book checkout on a designated day. In addition, the library has a very flexible schedule so that we can accommodate students who wish to come more often (1-5 only). Teacher approval is all it takes to return to the library throughout the week. Kindergarten – 2nd grade students often have a story time each week. 1st-5th grade students may also visit the library throughout the year for special library instruction/research projects, which is determined by the teacher and Ms. Green.
Pre-kindergarten and Special Ed students do not check out books, but do come to the library for story time each week.

Texas Bluebonnet Award Reading Program |
Each year, students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, (& 6th) grades have the opportunity to participate in this program, which encourages reading. Students are eligible to vote for their favorite book from a nominated list of 20 books. Voting usually takes place at the end of January. In order to participate, a student must read no less than 5 of the books on the list. This includes books that they read themselves OR have read to them. To see the current list for this school year, go to www.txla.org/groups/tba/.
Each time a student reads a Bluebonnet book from the list, he/she will need to see Ms. Green to take a very brief quiz to verify that the book was read. Quizzes are usually 3-4 brief questions, given orally. The library keeps track of student participation on a chart, located on the wall near the library office. |

But wait, there’s more… |
Students who read 8 or more books may be eligible to receive free books from the BOOK FAIR! The number to be read and the number of free books are usually determined after January 1.
Each class will have no less than 2 times to check out Bluebonnet books from the Klenk Library. Since we have a flexible schedule, some children will easily read 5 books in a week or less. It is recommended that students also try the public library to get these books. www.hcpl.lib.tx.us/branchinfo/cc/ccinfo.htm or www.houstonlibrary.org/hpl/index.html
