Important varicella vaccine update-second dose is now required for all PK-K & 7th grade students and is recommended for all ages.
*Handwashing is the single most effective way to prevent illness. Wash your hands before eating, after restroom use and coughing or sneezing, or whenever obviously dirty.
*A good breakfast is very important for your child’s physical and mental well-being. They will perform better in the classroom and on the playground.
*Please have a change of clothing in your child’s backpack every day. Students of all ages have spills in the lunchroom and falls in the mud during recess.
*Make sure the school nurse always has a way to reach you in case an emergency arises. Current phone numbers are very important.
*Please keep your child home when they are sick. Children should not come to school with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea. When your child comes to school ill they can spread their illness to others as well as be susceptible to secondary infections themselves. Your child will not perform at their best academically if they are sick and need time at home for rest and recovery.
*For more information on these items, see the “Clinic Notes” link.
Changes in Water Disinfection System
Attached is a letter from the Harris County Municipal Utilities District with information about their new system for disinfecting water provided to your home.
Swine Flu Information
The best defense against any illness, including the Swine Flu, is good hand washing. Hand washing with soap and water is still the recommended method by the CDC. Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer is also very effective as a hand cleansing agent. Please keep in mind that sanitizing hand gel does contain alcohol and its use should be monitored in children. Children at Klenk are not allowed to carry the gel because of the potential danger of an alcohol containing substance.

Please keep your child home if they are running a fever of 100 degrees or higher. A doctor's visit is advisable if your child has a fever and exhibits signs of a respiratory illness. Check out the scrolling text at kleinisd.net for Swine Flu information. Good resources can also be found at the CDC website www.cdc.gov/swineflu/ .
