We have studied about seeds and plants. We learned most plants grow from seeds so we examined lima bean seeds.

We used safety glasses to protect our eyes. We each got a seed that had been soaked in water. Then we carefully pulled off the seed coat that protects the seed.

We separated the 2 parts of the seed to see the new plant inside.

We also sorted different types of seeds.

We counted each type of seed, then put that data on a graph.

First Responders Day
First grade gathered to learn about safety from First Responders on September 11.

Police Officers taught us about their jobs and how they keep us safe.

We asked them questions about their jobs.

A fireman taught us about his job and how we can be safe in case of a fire in our homes.

He showed us what a fireman might look like if they have to come into our house if there is a fire. He looks different but we know to go to the fireman, not hide from him. He is there to help us.

We got to touch his fire suit so we would not be afraid.

Ms. Simi talked to us about the soldiers that help keep our country safe. Her son is a soldier in Iraq.

She showed us pictures and answered questions about the jobs that soldiers do.

On Friday, November 16, we enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving lunch in our cafeteria. We dressed as Indians and Pilgrims for lunch on Friday and Monday.
