Exiting Pre-AP Courses |
A message from the counselors: A student may choose to exit Pre-AP courses during the first six-weeks grading period or at the end of the first semester (regardless of student performance) and must have teacher and parent approval. Students and parents should have the benefit of knowing the six-weeks or semester grade before making an exit decision. Students should consider exiting a course at the end of the first semester if they do not maintain at least a "C" average for the semester. Course placement for students whose average falls below a "C" for a six-weeks grading period will be evaluated through communication which may include: the student, teacher, counselor, parent/guardian, and/or administrator. Placement decisions resulting from this communication require parent and administrator approval. |

KISD Promotion/Retention Requirements |
To be promoted in grades 6-8, a student must attain an average of at least 70 in all core academic areas: language arts (including reading improvement if required), mathematics (including mathematics improvement if required), science, and social studies.
Students will be required to pass both science and social studies, in addition to all language arts and mathematics courses. For more information, please see page 7 in the KISD Intermediate School Handbook. All students received a copy on the first day of school or when they enrolled.

Academic Test Days |
In order to prevent students from having every test on the same day, the following testing schedule has been established. This does not apply to daily quizzes or "pop" tests.
Monday: all courses and subjects not otherwise listed/social studies
Tuesday: mathematics/English
Wednesday: science/all courses and subjects not otherwise listed
Thursday: social studies/mathematics
Friday: English/science |
