Classroom Rules:
I have a relaxed classroom environment to help facilitate participation in our various activities. My rules are very simple:
#1. Respect each other (translates as NO HATING for my students!)
#2. Respect the instructor
By keeping the rules simple and sweet, I am hoping that each individual can easily remember them and abide by them.
Classroom Expectations and Teaching Style:
Each student in my class is expected to contribute towards our daily lessons. I have a Socratic method of teaching and depend upon each of my students to express their opinions, experiences, and thoughts. This helps to create a comfortable learning environment. Socratic teaching is the practice of questioning students throughout each lesson to guide their education. This style of teaching encourages students to challenge stereotypes, research information, and formulate their own opinions.
Classroom Money:
Your child may have mentioned how they earn money in my classroom. This is a classroom management technique that I learned to utilize in Lufkin ISD. The basis of this idea focuses on the student developing the mentality that my classroom is a job. They earn their money/paycheck by simply participating in our lessons each day. This money is then used to pay for several priviledges, buying points on low grade scores, skipping homework assignments, etc. Each Friday, students must pay rent on their desks(house); I allow group seating. If rent is paid, students receive a 100 in the gradebook. If rent is not paid, students must vacate their desk and move to a group that they can focus with. The idea of rent is meant to help teach students the value of a dollar and understand how life, in general, works for parents, teachers, musicians, etc.
