I sponsor the University Interscholastic League Events of Number Sense, Mathematics, and Calculator. During March, April, and May of each school year we compete in District, and through qualification Region and State UIL competition. My teams have won State 1st place UIL honors in 1990, 1991, 1993, 1996-2004, and 2006.
Through Texas Mathematics and Science Coaches Association, I sponsor the same events but with 12 local weekend competitions per year and 1 state competition in March. We have won State TMSCA from 1997-2004, 3rd in 2995, and 2nd in 2006.
Mu Alpha Theta gives the student an opportunity to excel in theoritical mathematical endeavors.
a) We compete locally at Texas A&M and Rice University.
b) On a national level, we prepare and compete in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) and through qualification the AIME. In 2006, Alex Ryan sat for the USAMO.
c) National Assessment of Testing (NAT) is national testing out of Stanford. It is competition at KHS and contains material from all levels of mathematics and is beyond the high school experience.
d) Texas Math League is 6 times a school year and is a Texas based competition sponsored out of the National Assoication of Mathematical Leagues. My teams have been placing 1-3 in the last years.
e) Mandelbrot is another National Testing of Theoritical Mathematics and occurs 5 times a year. |
