    Mr. John Linney
"THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN THE BEAUTY OF THEIR DREAMS"
"IMPOSSIBLE DREAMS ARE SOMETIMES POSSIBLE"
Dream what you dare to dream.
Go where you want to go.
Be what you want to be

My name is John Linney, and I teach 6th grade Social Studies. I am a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a B.S. in Social Studies, and a Masters degree in American History.

My wife, Beverly, and I were high school sweethearts, and were married a long time ago. We had four grown sons and six grandchildren. I went to college on a football scholarship, spent several years teaching and coaching in high school, and eventually I became a high school principal. My wife, Beverly was a member of the Kilgore Rangerettes--the world-famous womens Drill Team. We are both strong advocates of a "positive outlook on life--its problems--and its opportunities"

I spent over thirty years in the business world--mostly in sales management with companies like IBM, Exxon, and Compaq.

I believe I bring many "life" experiences to the classroom to complement my educational background.
It is important for you to know that I "like what I am doing".

I have four personal goals with regard to teaching, and they are as follows:
1. I want to ensure that each student knows what it takes to be a good and worthy citizen.
2. I want to help each student to realize the value of and necessity for courtesy and manners.
3. I want them to learn as much as possible about the many and varied world cultures--and to develop an understanding of and tolerance for those cultures.
4. Lastly, I want to be able to "make a difference" in the daily routine of these precious resources that we call our children.

Please feel free to send an e-mail to jlinney@kleinisd.net or call me at (832) 249-5123 with any questions or concerns that you might have. I prefer e-mail--I will always respond right away, or early the next morning.

Have a great day!--a great week!--and especially a great year!!!
SOCIAL STUDIES INFORMATION FROM J. LINNEY
MUSTANG MATE--This is the student planning guide. There will be an entry EVERY DAY WITHOUT EXCEPTION. This will give the daily and future assignments. It is required of all students. It is checked twice each six weeks for a daily grade based on completeness. The students are given sufficient time at the beginning of each class to complete this info.
WARM-UP EXERCISE--This is part of the everyday routine, and is done at the very beginning of class. The warm-up usually requires an answer to a current subject we are studying in the form of a statement. Students are told that once they have completed their Mustang Mate entry, and their Warm-Up they may talk quietly until the daily lessons begin.
WEB-SITE--The website is a repeat of the Mustang Mate for each day of the week. It will give info on current activities plus advance notice for all Quizzes and Tests. This is a good place for parents/guardians to stay informed of daily work. There will be times when the Web Site and the Mustang Mate info is not exactly together. Some days we make more progress, and some days we may fall behind--Basically, the intent is to stay on target as much as possible
HOMEWORK--the homework assignments usually take the form of study sheets to prepare each student for any quiz or test. They are expected, and have agreed to work diligently on all class assignments in lieu of homework.
SUPPLIES--Each student needs a three-ring binder with a tab or divider for Social Studies. A pencil (#2 soft lead) , and a black pen for maps, and a box of colored map pencils. Each should have an adequate supply of wide-ruled notebook paper.
GRADES--All Tests, Maps, and Special Reports are Major Grades. These count for 60% of the overall grade. All quizzes, Mustang Mate, and small or daily projects are Minor Grades. Since we have no usual homework assignments the minor grades count 40% toward the average. All grades, and assignments are entered into the computer which does the averageing as each grade is entered.
MAKE-UP WORK--All make-up work is the responsibility of the student. They will have adequate time to make-up missed work--any test or quiz that has been missed must be completed. You will have one day for each day of absence to make up any work. Refer to the Website if you are out of school for any reason.
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!!!
