***The TAKS Reading Test***
This statewide test will be administered on April 30th. The weeks of April 14th and April 21st will be largely dedicated to TAKS practice. Intermittently, students will be continuing their reading of the class novel. Around April 21st - April 22nd, students will be taking a TAKS-style test to assess their progress.

BONUS OPPORTUNITIES:

1. Creative Communication Presents... A Celebration of Young Poets POETRY CONTEST! Any student that wishes to enter this contest will be required to submit to me an original work by November 30th. I will give 3 bonus points on a major grade for each contestant. If a student is chosen as a published finalist he or she will recieve a considerable raise in their final average for the spring semester.

2. I will add 3 points to one major grade upon the proper submission and completion of each approved book report. When a student finds a book that interests him or her, he or she must get preliminary approval to use it as a bonus book. After the student completes the reading, I will give the student a series of open-ended questions about the book. In order to earn the bonus points the student must complete a one paragraph, thorough response to each question.
