The Wunderlich Band Program |
Wunderlich's band is one of the most active and visible programs on our campus. The band has a long-standing tradition of excellence in performance and competition.
The Wunderlich Band is a consistent UIL Sweepstakes Award Winner and places students in All Region Band and Orchestra on a yearly basis.
The band program consists of the Beginning Band, the Concert Band, and the Symphonic Band. With over 175 students, it is one of the largest band programs in Klein ISD.

Jim Shaw |
2006-2007 marks Mr. Shaw's 13th year as a public school band director and 6th as head band director at Wunderlich. A graduate of Klein Forest High School, Mr. Shaw holds both Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Performance degrees from West Texas A&M University.
Prior to teaching at Wunderlich, Mr. Shaw was the head band director at Alamo Junior High School in Midland. Under his direction, the Alamo Band consistently earned superior ratings in UIL and other contests and festivals and was named Best in Class at the Hub City Music Festival in 1998. From 1996 through 2001, Alamo band members earned approximately half of the available chairs in the Midland All-City Band.
During Mr. Shaw’s tenure at Wunderlich, the Symphonic Band has consistently earned superior ratings in competition. The band was named Best in Class at the South Coast Music Festival in 2003.
Mr. Shaw is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Beta Mu. An active clinician and adjudicator, he also conducts bands each summer at the West Texas A&M University band camp. Mr. Shaw is a contributing editor to The Instrumentalist magazine and has had several articles published on topics ranging from teaching sightreading skills to middle school bands to beginning band pedagogy. His most recent article, "Great Contest Music," was published in the March 2007 issue of the magazine.
He and his wife Jennifer, an elementary music teacher in Klein ISD, have two children - Emily, 4 years old at the start of the 2006-2007 school year, and Elliot, 7 months.

Robin Gresens |
Ms. Gresens is entering her third year at Wunderlich as the Assistant Band Director. Her responsibilities include teaching beginning brass, percussion, and woodwind classes, assisting with the Symphonic Band, and conducting the Concert Band.
Under Ms. Gresens' direction, the Concert Band has met with much success both in competition and performance. Participation in solo and ensemble compeptition has also increased substantially.
Prior to coming to Wunderlich, Ms. Gresens was the band director at Panhandle Junior High School during the 2003-2004 school year. Under her direction, the band earned its first UIL Sweepstakes award in many years.
Ms. Gresens has also taught in Canyon as the assistant director at Canyon Junior High School, an award-winning band program and one of the most successful in the Texas panhandle. Many of her former students were members of the 3A Texas Honor Band at Canyon High School in 2005.
Ms. Gresens is a graduate of West Texas A&M University and a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association. She is a member of the trombone faculty at the West Texas A&M University band camp. Her husband, David, is an assistant band director at Klein High School.
