Social Studies Program Goal: |
Social studies students at Hildebrandt should learn principles, vocabulary, concepts and generalizations as well as acquire a mature attitude and respect for the applications of world, national and state histories and citizenship. Learning takes place by reading, observing, solving problems, discussing and exchanging ideas with others. |
|
Social Studies Grading Guidelines: |
Daily grades equal 30% of the six weeks average. (The lowest daily grade is dropped at the end of each six weeks grading period.)
Homework grades account for 10% of the six weeks average.
Major grades equal 60% of the six weeks average.
Major assignments may be accepted up to three days late with a ten-point deduction for each late day.
|
|
Social Studies Testing Days: |
Major test days for Social Studies classes are Tuesdays and Fridays for the 2006-07 school year. |
|
Mustang Mates: |
In an effort to assist students in organizing their time and work, Hildebrandt has provided them with an assignment book. This Mustang Mate should be utilized by the students to record their class assignments. |
|
Geography Bee: |
All students in all grade levels participate by taking a written test to identify a winner in each class. Test questions are a mixture of questions sent from the National Geographic Society and questions over materials taught at each grade level. Class winners participate in a bee just before winter break. The bee winner takes a written test, sent by the National Geographic Society. The top 100 scores across the state earn the opportunity to participate in the State Final and the winner there represents Texas at the National Final in Washington, D.C. Hildebrandt has been fortunate to have had state level contestants over the course of the past several years. |
