Science Program Goals:
The following goals encompass five facets of student preparation and were developed to help students prepare for their futures in a technology-based world:
-to increase students' conceptual base of scientific phenomena.
-to promote students' abilities to think critically in order to find solutions to problems.
-to foster students' comfort with technological advances.
-to develop students' attitudes toward and appreciation for science in our society.
-to develop students' awareness of career opportunities in science.
Science Grade Distribution:
A student's overall grade is based on daily grades, which account for 30%, major grades will be 60% of their grade, and 10% will be homework.
Science Testing Days:
Major test days for Science classes are Mondays and Thursdays for the 2008-09 school year.
Inquiry Laboratory Investigations:
All 7th and 8th grade science students will complete at least one inquiry laboratory investigation during each semester in which they research a question or problem, form a testable hypothesis, design and conduct an experiment to test their hypothesis, and analyze the results to form a conclusion and make predictions. These investigations will cover 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science curriculum and will be completed by the students in class.
