Dolphin Dancers |
Dolphin Dancers sponsered by Ms. Johnson
This after school activity is a chance for children in the grades of 4th and 5th, to learn different styles of dance. The students have had many opportunities to show off their skills. We have been invited every year to perform at the districts Freedom Trek and occasionally at school events. We have performed and learned hip-hop, tap, line dancing, stepping, and salsa.
I have been dancing since I was 3 and dancing is a passion of mine. Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Park have been a wonderful support to me this year.
This year we will be performing tap and hip-hop at a Barnes and Noble in Champions and also at Freedom Trek. Come out and support our hard working and talented dancers.

Health Club |
Wellness Corner
Eiland has completed its first and very successful 10- weeks after school health program.
The purpose of the Health and Nurtrition :It’s a Family Effort was to improve the health of students and their families. The 10-week program was designed to bring nutrition and exercise information to the 3rd grade students identified in the AN risk group and reverse the trend on increasing BMI and blood pressure. This was accomplished by modeling healthy food choices, hands-on food preparations, provision of nutritional information and incorporating fun methods of exercise.
The interventions consisted of weekly activities focused on: Self esteem, Food label Education, Trying New Foods, Food Pyramid, Balancing Intake and Output, Portion Sizes, Beverages Choices, Calorie Banks, Junk Food Smart and You Are What You Eat.
Parents met to discuss what the students were learning and participated with Food Services in healthy food preparations and techniques utilizing culturally familiar foods. Including parents and students together in this educational mission- over the course of a semester- proved to be an effective tool in improving student health performance.
The proud and very informed following students graduated on 11-28-2007. R. Cuervo, D. Darce, M. Mims, M. Gonzalos, G. Perez, L. Nelson, J. Buggs, F. Bustos, C. Carter, N. Davis, S. Bazaldua, J. Martinez, F. Bustos, D. Neal, B. Ball, V. Espinoza, D. Davis, J. Uriostequi, J. Rodriquesz, K. Mim, E. Parker and L. Nelson.

Drums |
Eiland Waves is the opportunity for students in the grades of 3rd, 4th, and 5th to learn how to play percussion instruments. Students will learn to play drums, keyboards, and auxiliary percussion instruments.
Participation in this group is dependent on passing grades and all E’s and S’s in conduct. The group meets on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 PM in Ms. Howard’s room, rm 106.
I have been playing percussion since 6th grade and I have learned a lot of discipline through the art of playing percussion. In learning this craft I have developed my passion in music with laying down beats and creating grooves. I hope to instill in my student’s that music can be both fun and rewarding while still being educational.
