As an ESL teacher, I have the opportunity to be a part of my students' academic journey for several years. It is such a pleasure to be a guide along the path to learning, and to share many major milestones. I can think of few things more rewarding than to witness the expression on a child's face when he/she masters a difficult skill or discovers something new and exciting.
In grades two through five, I see the children reading stories, chapter books, and then novels. At each grade level, they are learning all those strategies that will help them to become a better readers and writers. Teaching ESL is a great joy to me. I love seeing the progress my students make in understanding and speaking English. Small group instruction gives me the opportunity to really get to know the kids and their needs. I also get a chance to follow through with them year after year until they exit our program. They become like part of my family."

Students are identified using state defined criteria on an approved oral and written English proficiency test.

Qualifying students are entitled to classes with specialized teachers at least one class period each day to enable the student to develop proficiency in the English language for success in school.
