October 2007
The Southwest Dairy Farmers brought the Mobile Dairy Classroom to Eiland. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Koonce for bringing "Daisy" the cow to Eiland.

Students witnessed a live milking demonstration and learned how milk goes from the farm to the grocery store.
Students and teachers learned to dance the waltz, polka, and the 2 step. Ye haw!
Students were taught about bull riding and were able to talk to a "Rodeo Clown."
This cowboy taught us all about roping.
This is "Cowgirl" the bunny rabbit. Students learned what rabbits eat and what other animals they can see at the livestock show.
Cowboy Swaysey shared "TALL tales" with our students. It was a fun time - we enjoyed hearing him speak.

Eiland students celebrated Young Author's Day on Thursday, November 15, 2007.
Staff members dressed up as their favorite book character. See if you can guess who they are!
Students participated in a Canned Food Drive for N.A.M. (Northwest Assistance Ministries)
Thanks to Mr. Anthony, Ms. Edenfield, Ms. Pezeshki, and Ms. Torkzadeh for helping pack the car with all the food!
Eiland Dolphins enjoy helping others.
Eiland Dolphin Dancers performed a tap routine during the Barnes & Noble Book Fair on Tuesday, November 27th.
The group danced to "You Can't Stop the Beat" from the musical, Hairspray.

This year's Dolphin Dancers are M. Lott, L. Garcia, J. Le, I. Lopez, G. Lopez, D. Ibarra, J. Bocanegra, N. Avila, A. Price, E. Mark, N. Solis, N. Davis, and M. Cadenas.

Sponsors are Ms. Johnson, Mrs. Johnston, and Mrs. Park.

Look for the group to perform again at the Klein ISD Freedom Trek on February 15, 2008 at Klein Collins High School.

Sunrise Champions Rotary Club Visits Eiland
Mr. Graham Sharp from the Sunrise Champions Rotary club graciously donated two bikes to students who had perfect attendance and good conduct during the first semester. The two winners are pictured below with Assistant Principal, Mr Jones. Congratulations!
NAM Book Drive
During our fall book fair we collected money to buy books for sick children. Ms. Hartwell from NAM came to a recent assembly to take the books to NAM for us. They will give the books to sick children who visit their clinic. Shown in the picture are student presenters, H. Bravo, E. Johnson and D. Nguyen, Ms. Hartwell, Ms. Firestone and Mrs. Petrie.

Kindergarten Spelling Bee
Kindergarten students participated in their 1st Annual Spelling Bee on Friday, January 4, 2008.
Pictured here is the winner, C. Nguyen from Ms. Thomas' class and the first runner up, I. Trejo from Ms. Padilla's class. Congratulations to all the finalists and to these two students. We are proud of you!

Students and teachers celebrated the 100th day of school, February 7, 2008.

Bilingual Spelling Bee
1st place: M. Hernandez, 3rd grade student in Mrs. Montemayor's class
We are very proud of our student, E. Herrera, who did a wonderful job in representing our school at our district's Spelling Bee.
Eiland students, N. Trejo and J. Zometa are winners of the 2008 Freedom Trek Essay Competition.
Both of these students essays were chosen from 313 entries in this years contest. Each winner will receive a medal
and a gift certificate to Barnes & Noble Bookstore. We are so proud of these girls.

March 2008
Our Kindergartners welcomed Dr. Gilliam
Cynthia Gilliam, a veterinarian for 20 years, visited our Kindergarten students on Wednesday, March 12th.
Dr. Gilliam works primarily with dogs, and she shared some x-rays with the students. Thank you Dr. Gilliam for telling us about animal safety.

Students and parents in Kindergarten thru 2nd grade attended two Math family nights sponsored by The Children's Museum of Houston.
