MATH FUN: Do you like to travel by plane? Do you enjoy watching planes take off or land? Air traffic controllers use math in order to be able to understand distances and measurements at a moment’s notice. They also must be able to do mental math quickly and accurately. Part of their job is directing air craft at what altitude and speed to fly. An error in these directions could be fatal so a strong math background is essential.
During peak air travel times in the United States, there are about 5,000 airplanes in the sky every hour. This translates to approximately 50,000 aircraft operating in our skies each day. Air traffic controllers regulate the traffic in the sky in order to provide safety and protection. Air traffic controllers can make between $55,000 and $165,000 a year. JT

HISTORY BEE: Seventh grade students met for the annual Doerre History Bee yesterday afternoon. After 20 rounds and a run-off quiz, the results are: 1st Place – A. George; 2nd Place – K. Chelikani; 3rd Place (Tie) – T. Nguy and R. Sudhakaran. Congratulations to all of our winners. We want to thank all the students for their participation. BI

DESTINATION IMAGINATION: Doerre D. I. has the first Klein ISD team competing at the International Global competition in Knoxville, Tennessee! The team will be competing against other teams from all around the world! They are trying to raise money to pay for the trip. The first period classroom that donates the most cash wins a Pajama Day in May! Yes, you will get to wear your PJs all day at school! Dig up all those extra coins in your pocket and drop them in the donation jar in your 1st period classroom. Contest ends today.

NJHS: Attention all NEW inductees: We will have our first meeting on Thursday, May 23rd in the activity room at 8:15. We will be discussing officer positions and the supply drive. See you there! SS

Attention 6th graders: Have you had the three vaccinations you need to start 7th grade? If you received a letter about shots with your last report card, please ask your parents about this important health matter. Texas law says you have to have your shots up to date or you can't start 7th grade! For questions, please see Mrs. Chilton or Mrs. Romaldo in the Doerre clinic. 832-249-5678.

FUN IN THE SUN: We will sponsor our Fun in the Sun days on the following dates: June 3 for 6th grade, June 4 for 7th grade, and June 5 for 8th grade.
