P.E...C.A.T.C.H. the Spirit
PE News
Throughout the school year students in P.E. will be working on the following individual and group skills: gross and fine motor, soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, and lacrosse. They will also be playing parachute games and will have the chance to learn the art of juggling. We will continue the Mittelstadt Mileage Club this year. For new parents and students, this program is where students run one period a week trying to complete as many laps as they are able. As an incentive, for every five miles a student runs they earn a "toe token". When a student runs at least 15 miles before the end of the school year they will sign a special recognition poster. Our Field Day will once again be in the spring and we are looking forward to them being very successful. Parental assistance is always appreciated. The students have a fun-filled day of individual and group activities.

As a reminder, it is very important that our students wear tennis shoes/sneakers to P.E. in order to participate in the daily activities.

We would like to inform you that your child has been learning healthy ways to live a healthy lifestyle during our physical education classes. Klein ISD has adopted a Physical Education program called CATCH, which stands for Coordinated Approach to Child Health. This program is designed to promote physical activity and healthy food choices that children can use throughout their lifetime.

CATCH incorporates Physical Education, the student’s homeroom classroom, food service personal, faculty and staff, along with parental involvement. This program provides for a school wide atmosphere for healthy learning and physical activity. Our main goal is to provide positive reinforcements from exercise along with making healthy eating choices.

Making healthy food choices is part of the Eat Smart initiative from CATCH. Food groups are divided into Go, Slow, and Whoa foods. Your child has learned the various foods in these 3 categories. A list of these foods is included in this letter for your reference at home. Please feel free to discuss these types of foods with your child when making healthy meal choices for you and your family.

Family plays an important role into living a healthy and productive lifestyle.
