Each year, twenty books are nominated by the Texas Library Association for the Bluebonnet Program. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students can participate in this program all across Texas. Students read and take notes on each book and then engage in a "book talk" with our new librarian to verify that he has read and understood the book. At Roth, awards are given in February to recognize students who have read ten or more of these books. Bluebonnet Books are available in our library and classroom, as well as at the local bookstores and public libraries. Last year, we had many third grade students read all twenty books!
Books can be read to the students. The importance of family reading cannot be stressed enough. This is an excellent opportunity for you to read with your child and to share and discuss the books.
