The Reader's Workshop is 60 minutes each day where students will work in a small teacher-guided reading group, read during independent reading time , and receive explicit lessons on strategic reading skills that are part of TAKS preparation.
Students will also participate in literature circles using novels on their reading level.

The Writer's Workshop is 45 minutes each day where students work on composition writing. Students will participate daily in a teacher guided writing lesson along with independent writing and individual conferencing with teacher. Students in fourth grade prepare for a TAKS writing test administered in late February.

This academic block consists of weekly spelling lists that focus on a specific spelling principle. Also weekly vocabulary words are taken from either a fiction or nonfiction text read aloud in class during the week. These vocabulary words are a core list that is given to all 4th grade classes throughout Klein ISD.
