Students are aware of grading policies
Marking Periods
The grading period in music is nine weeks in duration for music and grades are cumulative over those nine weeks. The students begin fresh at the beginning of each nine week period.
Our Grades and Class Lessons Are Based Upon The TEKS
  • Perception: description and analysis of musical sound and demonstration of musical artistry that enable students to develop their intellects; refine their emotions; understand the cultural and creative nature of musical artistry; and make connections among music, the other arts, technology, and other aspects of life

  • Creative expression/performance: creations and performances of a varied repertoire of music communicated through the expressive technical skills of music, critical thinking skills, and multiple forms of problem solving

  • Historical and cultural heritage: understanding the relationship of music to history, society, and culture by exploring the music of various time periods and diverse societies

  • Response/evaluation: response to and evaluation of musical performance based on criteria developed for making critical judgments and informed choices.
  • What are the students graded on?
    Acquiring musical skills such as steady beat, rhythmic awareness, pitch discrimination, and in-tune singing are necessary to successful performance in a musical ensemble. The development of these skills is a process wherein students must be disciplined, active listeners involved in structured practice in order to acquire these elements necessary to musical growth.
    Conduct Grades
    Each student will start every nine weeks at 100. Students loose 5 points for each time they sign the conduct book. At the end of each marking period the students grades will be converted from numbers to E/S/N/U grades.
    E = 90 or higher (less and 2 marks)
    S = 75-89 (3-5 Marks)
    N = 55-64 (8-6 Marks)
    U = Under 54 (9 or more marks)
