Brill’s PTO was proud to sponsor the 2009 Camp Reach A-Lot (CRAL). During CRAL, Brill students enjoyed a variety of performances and presentations highlighting school-related subject areas in this highly anticipated, daylong event. It is an in-house field trip right here at Brill!
This year, Brill students enjoyed:
Houston’s premier theater, InterActive Theater Company, as they performed Meet the Presidents. Students enjoyed their trip to “Pennsylvania Avenue” and learning about the Executive Branch of government.
Master puppeteer, Jean Kuecher, dazzled students with a performance using marionettes to depict classic fairytales. Ms. Kuecher also performed a special puppet show just for our pre-kindergarten students! What a treat for our youngest Brill Broncos!
AD Players performed Secret Identity. In this show (and brief discussion afterward), the play’s hero and Brill students learned how to stand up for what is right and be happy being themselves!
Julian Franklin Productions presented The Simple Machines Workshop. Throughout the program, students learned how simple machines help us “Work Smarter, Not Harder.”
Using art, drama, and storytelling, "The Million Faces of Humpty" was revealed by author Vuthy Kuon. In Mr. Kuon's book, Humpty Dumpty After the Fall, Humpty never reveals his face. Here he represents all of us whom may have "fallen" and gives us all the opportunity to be a part of his recovery. In this presentation, Brill students became illustrators themselves and helped Mr. Kuon create Humpty's new face!
Finally, Brill welcomed award-winning author Susan Stevens Crummel and illustrator Janet Stevens.
They enthusiastically discussed the creative writing process and importance of reading and writing. We also got to hear about the making of their latest book, Help Me, Mr. Mutt! Most recently, this book was named to the 2009-2010 Texas Bluebonnet Master List. In addition, it was also recognized as one of Time Magazine's Top 10 Children's Books of 2008! What a wonderful opportunity it was to have Ms. Crummel and Ms. Stevens at Brill!
