Klein ISD Physical Education Rules & Regulations
I. Facility Fee and Clothing Costs
A. School uniforms and fees will be paid through the Physical Education Department on that campus. The uniform cost is $11.00 ($6.00 for shorts, $5.00 for the shirt), and the facility fees are $3.00 per semester, ($6.00 a year). The total for the year is $17.00.
B. PLEASE NOTE: PE locks are returned at the end of the school year.
II. Gym Attire
A. PE uniform must have the students name displayed in permanent marker written by their coach. No other writing than the students name will be allowed on the uniform. Any destruction of the uniforms will result in purchasing a new uniform.
B. Uniforms should be taken home at the end of every week and laundered.
C. Rentals will be available for a cost of $.25 per item.
D. Tennis shoes and socks must be worn. (NO flip flops, or wheelie shoes allowed)
III. Suiting Out
A. The students are expected to dress out every day regardless of whether or not they are excused from active participation.
B. No other apparel is to be worn under or over gym suit unless specified/approved by coach. Disciplinary action will result for students who refuse to dress out.
C. Warm-up / Sweat suits may be worn over the PE uniform during cold weather.
D. For personal safety reasons, jewelry will not be worn to class.
IV. Temporary Excuses
A. A signed excuse from the parent or guardian will be acceptable for a maximum of three days. The parental note should include a date, the reason for the excuse, the number of days to be excused, parent’s signature, and phone number. This excuses the student from active participation only; suiting out will still be required. The student will also be required to go to the library and will be required to complete a written assignment and turn it in to their coach to receive their points or that day.
B. Following this three-day period, a doctor’s note is required. If the time noted from the doctor is excessive in length, the student will dress out and be assigned alternate activities.
V. Tardies
A. The student must be inside the locker room before the tardy bell rings in order not to be counted as an official tardy. These are recorded in the attendance office.
B. The student must be in his or her designated area on time for roll check or he/she will be counted as a classroom tardy.
VI. Locks and Lockers
A. Lockers are assigned to each student and may not be changed or shared without instructor’s permission.
B. A lock will be issued by the physical education department and is to be returned at the end of the year. Locks not returned or lost will be replaced at a cost of $5.00 to the student. Only locks issued by the physical education department are allowed.
C. All articles must be locked in the locker at all times. It is the responsibility of the student, not the P.E. department, to check locker area for any of their items left out. It is also the students responsibility to ensure their locker is locked.
VII. Health & Fitness Testing(one class day per week)
A. Students will be required to take notes and complete a vocabulary assignment one day each week. They will need only their lap-tops for the assignment.
B. Students will also be measured that day in a random fitness test. They will need their lap tops to log their results.
VIII. Dressing Room Rules
A. To ensure full daily grade credit, students must be dressed out completely (PE shirt, PE shorts, white socks, and athletic shoes) and participate in the days activity.
B. Gum chewing will not be permitted in any athletic/PE areas. No outside food is allowed in the gym or locker room.
C. When a student enters the dressing room, he/she must proceed to their dressing area.
D. Drinks purchased in the physical education dressing areas may not be removed form that area. Drinks may be purchased at the end of class only. Empty cans are to be placed in the trash containers.
E. During the school day, no student will be allowed in the dressing room unless assigned to a physical education class at that time.
F. Running, fighting, yelling, throwing or horse playing in the dressing room will result in disciplinary action.
G. Any abuse of school property will result in disciplinary action.
H. Dirty towels and rent suits are to be placed in the hampers for laundering.
I. Student must be seated before dismissal from class. The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell. Standing at the door before dismissal will not be allowed.
J. Aerosol sprays and glass containers of any kind are prohibited.
K. If student has a cell phone/camera, it must be turned off and locked up at ALL times while in the locker room. If it is seen out or in use, it will be turned into office.
L. At any time during the class period the instructor may remove a student from the activity for disruptive or inappropriate behavior and deduct the students points for the day.
M. Continued non-compliance of the rules by a student may result in a discipline referral to the Principal’s office for further disciplinary action.
IX. Grading
A. The importance of each area of grading is shown below:
B. Participation-Dressing out and participating in activities 75%
Skills, Fitness and Written Test 25%
C. Student starts each 6 weeks with a total of 100 points. Any reduction of points cannot be made up with the exception of absences as per the handbook.
