Blackshear Elementary Question and Answer

This is a collection of questions that have been discussed with parents and staff regarding the opening of Blackshear Elementary. Additional questions and answers that are general in nature will be added as they are asked. You are encouraged to review these questions and answers (Q&A) and if your question is not addressed, please submit your question to dluedeker@kleinisd.net.

Q: Will the instructional program at Blackshear Elementary School be different from that of other Klein Elementary Schools?

A: Blackshear Elementary School will follow the Klein ISD curriculum for all subject areas. Best practices in implementing the Klein ISD elementary curriculum will also be followed. These best practices are defined in the Klein Curriculum and training provided for Klein ISD staff.

Q: Where can I go to find information about the Klein Curriculum?

Q: What will the class size be at Blackshear?

A: Current State law determines the class size in grades K-4 to be 22:1. Klein ISD guidelines set fifth grade guidelines at 25:1. This is subject to change by the state legislature and the Klein ISD.

Q: Who receives bus transportation in Klein ISD?

A: The guidelines for determining who receives bus transportation are on the Klein ISD site that follows:

Q: Which sections of the attendance zone will and will not receive bus transportation?

A: Bus transportation is provided for the following sections:
Northern Point Subdivision
Ashford Grove
All streets south of Lacey Road off of Hufsmith-Kohrville Road
All sections Ashford Place west of Hufsmith-Kohrville Road
Stoneleigh Apartments
Champion Lakes Estates Subdivision

Bus transportation will not be provided for:
Ashford Place east of Hufsmith-Kohrville Road
Memorial Springs
Lacey Road east of Hufsmith-Kohrville Road

Q: Will sidewalks be built from the school to the Memorial Springs Subdivision?

A: A sidewalk will be built from the school to the entrance of the Memorial Springs Subdivision along Lacey Road.

Q: What is the attendance zone for Blackshear Elementary?

A: The attendance zones for all Klein ISD school including Blackshear Elementary can be found at www.kleinisd.net/users/0050/docs/BlackshearFinal.pdf .

Q: When will the school be ready for visitors?

A: Early August, provided the projected completion date is met. The projected completion date for the school is mid July 2011. This target date is impacted by many variables including weather, but not limited to only this variable. Historically Klein ISD schools have been ready to open on the projected opening day.

Q: Do you plan to have tours of the building prior to the first day of school?

A: Yes we are planning for guided tours of Blackshear Elementary during the week of August 8th. More information will be provided regarding these tours in the parent letter set to arrive at your home in mid July 2011 and on the Blackshear Elementary website.

Q: Will I need to register my child if they currently attend Krahn, Kohrville or Frank Elementary School and we live in the Blackshear Elementary attendance zone?

A: No. All records will be transferred to Blackshear Elementary during the month of July 2011. No action is required by parents or guardians.

Q: When will I be able to purchase school supplies at Blackshear Elementary?

A: The school supply sale is scheduled for August 8th through August 19th. Information about school supplies will be sent home on the last day of school from Krahn, Kohrville and Frank Elementary Schools for students who will attend Blackshear Elementary. They will also be in the letter to parents in mid July and can be found at classroom.kleinisd.net/webs/blackshear/home.htm.

Q: How will I find out who my child’s teacher will be?

A: Blackshear Elementary will send you a postcard with your child’s teacher the week prior to the start of school.

Q: Will the school have a playground?

A: Yes. As part of the building construction a playground will be built. It is anticipated that it will be available for student play the first day of school.

Q: Will we have a PTO?

A: Yes. Dedicated parents are currently developing the constitution and bylaws of the organization. You can get involved in this process by submitting your request to dluedeker@kleinisd.net.

Q: If I bring my child to school, where will I deliver them?

A: A school delivery and pick-up map and instructions will be distributed to all parents in several ways. You will receive this information in the mid July 2011 letter and it will be sent home to you on the first day of school.

Q: What is the large metal tower behind the school?

A: It is a water harvesting station. The water harvested from part of the building and the cooling system will be used to irrigate our school site.

Q: I am concerned about the traffic on Lacey Road, what are the plans for the school zone?

A: School zones will be established and enforced by the local law enforcement groups.

P: ¿Cómo podré saber quien sera la maestra o el maestro de mi hijo o hija?

R: Blackshear les mandará una tarjeta postal con el nombre del maestro o la maestro de su hijo o hija una semana antes de que empiezen las clases.

P: ¿Tendra juegos de recreo la escuela?

R: Sí. Como parte de la construcción de la escuela habra juegos para el primer día de clases.

P: ¿Tendremos una Organización de Padres y Maestros?

R: Sí. Actualmente padres dedicados están desarrollando una constitución y reglas de la organización. Usted se puede involucrar al mandar sus ideas al director a dluedeker@kleinisd.net .

P: ¿Si traigo a mi hijo o hija a la escuela donde los puedo dejar?

R: Se distribuira un mapa con instrucciones de donde puede dejar y recoger a su hijo o hija. Será enviado en la carta de mediados de Julio y también se mandara el mapa a casa el primer día de clases

P: ¿Qué es la torre grande de metal que esta atras de la escuela?

R: Es una estación de conservación de agua. El agua que se conserve de parte del edificio y del aire acondicionado será usada para regar nuestra escuela.

P: ¿Estoy preocupado del tráfico en Lacey Road, cuales son los planes para la zona escolar?

R: La zonas escolares serán establecidas y reenforzadas por la policia local.
