BENFER TRAFFIC FLOW CHANGES |
Dear Parents Over the past several years, traffic along Kuykendahl has greatly increased. The Klein District along with Harris County conducted a traffic study to design a safe entry and exit to the car rider parking lot for our families. The car rider parking lot is now right turn in and right turn out only. When turning in, cars are to follow the yellow arrows painted and drive in single file. This will reduce back-up on Kuykendahl.

Options for Departure from Benfer |
- Ride the bus.
- Strack Flagpole: All Walkers will be allowed to continue home using the crosswalks under the direction of the Crossing Guard. Parents meeting students at the flagpole do not have to sign for them. If parents usually meet their child at the flagpole and are not present at dismissal, the child will be returned to the car rider area. In case of severe weather (heavy rain and lightening), all Walkers and students meeting parents at the flagpole will dismiss at the car rider area.
- Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten students who will be met by parents are dismissed in front of the front office. Parents will sign for their child at a cart in front of the building. The child will be delivered to the parent. Any other parent walking up to meet a child at the car rider area must sign for the child.
- Car Riders: Car Riders must have a car rider number. If you were issued a number last year, you can pick up your number from your child’s teacher at Meet the Teacher (August 20). Students who will be car riders for the first time can sign for Car Rider numbers in the cafeteria at Meet the Teacher on Friday August 20 from 2-5 p.m. or through the front office (832-484-6000). Attach the car rider number to the car visor on the passenger’s side. When picking up your child, flip down the visor so that the car rider number can be easily seen. Children need to learn their car rider number. Cars will right turn into the parking lot in front of the building and follow the arrows in single file. Students will be called using the car rider number and loaded into the car. Anyone picking up your child must display the car rider number. Then cars will follow the arrows to the exit and turn right onto Kuiykendahl.
Please let your child’s teacher know how your child will be going home.
Sincerely,
Dr. Loraine Lambert, Principal

Arrival Time and Tardies: |
Regular attendance is critical for student success in school. Students may arrive no earlier than 7:45 a.m. when staff members are available to supervise children. Students enter through the cafeteria. The school day begins at 8:15 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:20 a.m. A student will be marked tardy if he is not in his room or mod area and seated when the tardy bell rings. Students who are tardy 3 times will receive a note from the office. On the 4th tardy the general conduct grade will be reduced a letter. On the 9th tardy and every tardy after that, the student will serve after school detention.
Benfer teachers welcome students into class at 8:00 a.m. Teachers use this time before school to provide extra help for struggling students and enrichment for others. If you need to visit with a teacher, please schedule a conference by calling 832-484-6000. Teachers are working with students during the school day and can not be interrupted.
