Kelly Hammons- Reading Specialist |
khammons@kleinisd.net
I am Kelly Hammons, reading lover! In my spare time, which is not a lot, I enjoy spending time in a juicy novel. As a child, I was an avid reader. I always imagined myself in the stories I read. I think that is what naturally drew me to become a teacher. I have been teaching for 15 years. This is my fourth year as the reading specialist at Benignus. I enjoy working with small groups to foster and develop reading skills. This summer, I enjoyed learning new ways to make reading fun for kids. I love reading and my job!
My family and I reside in Wind Rose, close to school! My son, Walker, will begin kindergarten this year. Oh boy! His little sister still has a few years before school-life begins. Walker is very excited and can't wait to be a leopard! He has prepared by visiting the public library often this summer and reading to his mom & dad and little sister. He loves to read and tries to spell everything. This year will be a fun and exciting experience for the Hammons!
I look forward to being a resource for students, teachers, and parents.

Kim Hollier |

It is a joy to be your Benignus librarian!
I am originally from Abbeville, Louisiana and went to college at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now called the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where I earned by Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I went straight into graduate school and earned my Master's Degree in Education of the Gifted and at the same time earned my Kindergarten Certification. I got married and moved to Houston early in 1997 and soon began working at Schultz Elem. (Klein ISD) the following school year, where I happily taught for five years. I got my Library Science Endorsement from Sam Houston State University in 2002 and began working as a librarian at Wilkerson Intermediate School in The Woodlands, with Conroe ISD. I was there for one year, and I really missed teaching younger children, so I was thrilled to get to work as a librarian at Powell Elementary, also in The Woodlands. I really loved working at Powell for three years, but I wanted to work closer to home to have more time with my son. I have lived in WindRose since 1998, so it brings me great happiness to teach all of the children of my friends and neighbors here. I am super excited about my son, Samuel, starting Kindergarten at Benignus this year, and I look forward to seeing all of the Benignus students again in the library. I hope to continue to encourage a love of reading and help your children find lots of awesome books to read this year!
Parents, please come on down to see our library, and feel free to browse or check out more books for your children at any time! Reading together at home is a fantastic way to foster a love of reading!

Cheryl Payne- ESL |
cpayne1@kleinisd.net
Hi! My name is Cheryl Payne and I’m very happy to be part of the great team here at Benignus! I received my bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and spent 4 years working with children in Houston ISD before coming to Klein. My experience in HISD includes working with children in all grade levels from kindergarten through fifth grade as a substitute teacher at different schools in the district. The main school in which I made my home was Ed White Elementary, a Title I Exemplary school! I was a long term substitute teacher in 1st and 4th grades at Ed White and I also worked with at-risk children in small groups for reading, math, and writing intervention. In the school year of 2006-07, I got married and became the third grade ESL teacher on my campus where I continued to teach 3rd grade for two years until my husband and I relocated to the Spring/Woodlands area. I love to travel to experience different cultures, people, and places. So far, my husband and I have been to several places in Mexico and Europe. I have also traveled to Jordan. I am now looking forward to my second year working with the wonderful ESL students here at Benignus! | | |
