I grew up and went to school in Tomball, Texas so I have lived around the Klein area for many years. I attended the University of Texas after high school, where I received my teaching degree. After college I taught third grade for one year in Manor, Texas at Manor Elementary School. After that I returned to Houston to teach third grade for 5 years at Aldine Academy in Aldine I.S.D. This will be my first year to teach in Klein and my first year in a fifth grade classroom. I love the Houston Astros and UT Football (Hook ‘em Horns!). I also really like the outdoors. I camp as much as I can and I also spend a lot of time working in my yard. I like to think that I have a “green thumb” so I put it to good use. I am really excited to be teaching Math and Science at Benignus Elementary and I am looking forward to a great year in the 5th grade!

I was born in Houston, Texas in 1981. I grew up in Sugar Land, Texas. I left home after high school to attend college at Texas A&M University! Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 2004…Whoop! While in college, I ran into an old middle school flame who is now my husband, Kent. We were married in 2004 and were blessed with a beautiful baby boy in 2006 named Michael Kent Coopwood, III. We call him “Trey.”
Besides being a mom, I am also a triathlete. I have completed 3 sprint triathlons since 2007! Other things I enjoy are sandy beaches, fishing with my in-laws, swimming/floating in the Texas lakes and rivers, interior decorating and floral design, shopping, shoes, dark chocolate and family traditions.
My teaching career began in Bryan ISD where I taught 5th grade English Language Arts for 2 years. My husband accepted a job after college in the north Houston area which brings us here to Klein. I couldn’t be happier to be back “home” and at Benignus doing what I love! I’m thrilled to be starting my 3rd year of teaching 5th grade ELA and social studies here at Benignus. Go Leopards!!

I was born in New Orleans, but consider myself a Texan because I have lived here since I was two years old. Being a product of the Klein School District, I had a very successful career at Texas Tech University (Get your Guns Up!) and graduated this past May. Because of the excellent teachers I had in Klein, I chose education as my career path. I am passionate about teaching, as were all of my teachers at Erhardt, Mittelstadt, Kleb, and Klein High School. I am thrilled to be a member of the faculty at Benignus this year. I will be teaching 5th grade ELA and Social Studies, teaming with Roi-Ann Kidd.

A native Texan and descendent of the second governor of Texas, I grew up in Houston and have lived in this area all my life. We built here in Windrose 8 years ago and this is my 7th year teaching in the Klein district. Starting at Roth, I moved over to Benignus when it opened and have felt privileged to be a part of this wonderful school. I attended Texas Tech and Sam Houston State universities, minoring in biology, but I enjoy teaching all subjects. This year our class will be self-contained and in a room with a real door and running water!
I am very happily married and have 4 amazing children. My twin son and daughter are now 31, and still at home are my 16 year old daughter and 10 year old son. We have a newly acquired Cocker Spaniel named Winston who has brought extra cheer into our home this summer. I am looking forward to an exciting year in 5th grade!

My name is Tony Scherrman and I'll be teaching 5th grade math/science this year. This will be my first year in the Klein district and I'm ready for the new adventure. The past 8 years I spent teaching mathematics in Aldine ISD. In those years, the first 7 years I taught 5th grade and this last year I taught 7th grade.
I'm originally from a small town in eastern Iowa called Dyersville where I was born and raised a few corn fields from the Field of Dreams. Over the summer I was married to my wonderful wife Josefine. I'm a die-hard Chicago sports fan and an Iowa Hawkeye fanatic. There's no doubt that this year will be exciting and educational. Go Cubs!!!

I am excited about welcoming our 3rd class of 5th graders! I am beginning my eleventh year of teaching which means this group of kids were born when I began teaching in 1998. Wow! I taught for 4 years in Tomball ISD in 4th grade, and then came to Klein ISD to teach at Krahn Elementary for 4 years in 3rd grade. When Benignus opened up in 2006, I moved up to 5th grade and have been loving it ever since.
My parents moved here in 1982 from El Dorado, Arkansas, and I grew up in the Klein district: Theiss Elementary, Doerre Intermediate, and Klein High School. I attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1998. I married my childhood sweetheart (we met in 3rd grade) Matt, and we have 3 beautiful children: Madison, 8; Mallory, 4; and Mitchell, almost 2. I look forward to another school year watching the children evolve into young adults.
