We have two dogs that act like our children: Lilly our Yorkie and Abby our Lab. I am thrilled and honored to be a member of the Benignus family and can’t wait to meet each of you and your families!! I am looking forward to a fabulous year filled with laughter, fun and learning.

Wow! New school! New classroom! New students! New teacher! (well, almost new...except for those nineteen years in Klein teaching second grade..plus a few years teaching various other grades!) Anyway, I LOVE second grade students and I feel it is my job to make this year fun, exciting and meaningful for your child. Considering that these children have many more years of school ahead of them, it is important to instill a joy of leaning and in turn have each child continue their excitement of attending school.
My husband, Mark, and I have three grown children who all graduated from Klein Oak. My oldest son, Ben, is an aircraft mechanic working for Continental Express and is married to Andi Coons Conrad, my favorite daughter in law! My middle son, Mike, is currently in San Diego, in his final training as a Navy helicopter pilot and my youngest, Carolyn, is an attorney for Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles. Since the kids are gone my husband and I now share our home with 3 cats...Chloe, Max and Bama. I love the beach and spend my summers at our house in Seagrove, Florida.

Debra Guckenberg
dguckenberg@kleinisd.net

Hi, My name is Debbie Guckenberg. To tell you a little bit about myself, I graduated from the University of North Dakota with a BS degree in education. My first job landed me in Houston, where I taught pre-kindergarten for 3 years in a private school.
Growing up a North Dakota girl, my greatest adjustment was the hot, humid summers! Once I adjusted to the climate, I decided to stay in Houston and apply for a teaching job in Klein ISD. I have taught both first and second grade for the past 17 years. I am extremely elated to be here at Benignus and look forward to another happy, productive year with your children.

Welcome to 2nd grade! I feel so blessed to be here at Benignus, working with such an awesome faculty and your children. I moved to Spring in the 8th grade, attended Hildebrant and graduated from Klein Oak High School. I then attended Stephan F. Austin University, earning a degree in Education. I was hired in Spring ISD and taught there for five years, until my husband and I were fortunate enough for me to stay at home when we had our two sons. After eight years of being at home, I returned to teaching here at Benignus. With great enthusiasm, I’m looking forward to teaching- and learning- with your children!
Kasey Mathew

My name is Kasey Mathew, and I am SO thrilled to be a part of the Benignus family. I previously taught in Aldine ISD for 5 years, and this will be my third year in Klein as a Benignus Leopard! In Aldine I taught 3rd grade for one year and then left the country to live in the Dominican Republic as a missionary and Compassion International volunteer. Upon my return to the US, I obtained my bilingual certification and have been teaching bilingual 2nd grade ever since. I was born and raised here in Houston, Texas and studied at the University of Texas in Austin (hook 'em horns)! I am also currently working on a master's degree in educational administration from Lamar University. My beautiful husband Wes and I will celebrate our 5th anniversary soon. I don't have any children yet, but I can't wait to meet my new kiddos at Benignus!

Welcome to second grade! My name is Kristy Nichols and I am thrilled to be joining the Benignus staff this year. I graduated from Texas Tech with my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. I have spent the last three years teaching in Frisco ISD, up in the Dallas area. I am so excited that I have the opportunity to return to my hometown. I grew up in the Spring area, attending Kuehnle, Kleb and Klein High School. I think it is so neat that I can now give back to the school district where I received my education.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, cheering on my Red Raiders and Houston Astros and playing with my sweet, Multi-Tzu, Raider! I look forward to a great school year filled with lots of learning and fun.
