The Texas Lone Star Reading List is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table. The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grade 6,7, or 8 to explore a variety of current books.

When students complete each book, they are asked to take a short quiz. Readers who successfully complete 3 books will receive a pencil. After reading 9 books from the Lone Star List, the reader will receive a reading certificate. When 15 or more titles from the current list are completed, each reader will be invited to a banana split party held in the library at the end of the year.
