Significant immunization rule changes for students in Texas will go into effect for school year 2009-2010. Immunization requirements for early childhood and pre-kindergarten and for polio and hepatitis B have not changed. In tomorrow's message, the district will provide readers with locations where immunizations may be obtained before the end of the school year.
Parents are urged to update student immunization records with the school clinic before the end of this school year or before the first day of next school year. Students out of compliance with immunization rules are in danger of missing instruction. For a more complete explanation of the state requirements, check the Klein ISD Web site. Questions about the changes in the law should be discussed with your child's physician or the school nurse.
Additions to the immunization rules include the following: for students entering kindergarten, each child is required to have two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), two doses of hepatitis A, and two doses of Varicella (for chickenpox) vaccine prior to entering kindergarten; for students entering the seventh grade, each child is required to have one dose of meningococcal vaccine and a Tdap (Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis) vaccine within the last five years; for students in grades 8-12, students must have received a Tdap vaccine within the past ten years. |
