Dear Parent:

I am very proud of all my Spanish students!.  They have come so far this academic year in developing their Spanish skills.  Likewise, what a great job they did on their Fall Semester Exam.

My goal this second semester is to engage them in "conversational Spanish," making this experience applicable to real world situations.  This means: conversing in Spanish with a partner(s), small groups and performing skits/dialogues in class.

I will continue to post my tutorial dates/times, quizzes, test and dialogue skits on my web page.  Please have your child visit my Calendar web page when in doubt of assessment dates.

***If your child is performing below his/her ability, please have him/her come in to my tutorials.  I will gladly help your child.   Please check my "calendar web page" for dates and times.***

Your child is given new vocabulary every two weeks.  He/She can access this vocabulary 3 different ways:  1) www.quizlet.com  Enter: Kisd Doerre Realidades  Then look for the particular chapter number we are currently working on.  2) On line textbook.  Your child has access to the online Realidades textbook. Have your child enter: User Name: (their address)  PW:  Spanish 133.    3) Study the vocabulary handout (paper copy)  I provide to all students at the beginning of a new unit.

Dear Parent:

On Monday 10/14, your child was assigned a small project called "Nicho,"  which is a shadow box/diorama.  The Nicho will depict "calacas" - skeletons - in a living situation.  It should be satirical in nature and is used to poke fun at the living & even death itself.  It typically has a funny title, caption or pun.   We will study "Day of the Dead" which is one of the largest holidays in Central Mexico, the week of Oct. 28th.   On Friday, Nov. lst, students will have  a traditional snack that is enjoyed during this holiday.  A permission/food allergy form should be coming home for your signature.  Your signature is required !

On Monday 10/21, your child will be assigned a partner to write and perform a short memorized dialogue/skit in Spanish.  This will be a "test grade" and each student will be graded individually. Your child will work with his/her partner (in class)  Monday-Wednesday to write a script in Spanish using vocabulary that has been learned to this date.  On Thursday, your child will submit their "rough draft" for 50% of their test grade. ------Please encourage your child to practice memorizing his/her lines beginning Thursday evening (Oct. 24th)  through the weekend! -----  On Monday, Oct. 28th & 29th your child & partner will perform their dialogue before the class.

Spanish is off to a great start!                              9/16/13

I hope your child is coming home with a "song in his/her heart."  Music is a wonderful way to master a new language in a covert way.

                                Homework/Test/Quizzes

Your child has 10 minutes of homework 5-7 days a week!  Please have your child practice their new vocabulary (given weekly) on  www.quizlet.com.   On the site, have your child enter the name "Doerre" then look for the current vocabulary list. On www.quizlet.com, your child can download the vocabulary on flash cards, listen to the words pronounced in Spanish, write, play games and take pre-assessments.-------  On my web page, under "homework assignment" you can locate the vocabulary theme.  Likewise, on my "calendar"  I post all "test and quiz" dates.

                                   Grades:

With 160 students, I will do my best  to grade and post your child's grade in Grade Speed within 3 days.

                                  Re-Test

Your child has the opportunity to re-test  on a "quiz or a test" up to 5 days from the date administered. The average of the two grades will be their new grade.

Parents:

You can have instant access to your child's grades at any time by going to the Klein ISD District homepage at kleinisd.net or by clicking on the link in the toolbar above titled, "District Home". On the Klein home page, there is a link called Parent Connection in the box titled "Parent". Click on that link and follow the instructions to set up your Parent Connection account. If you have more then one child in Klein schools, you can set up access to each students grades here. You can even set up alerts so that the system sends you an email each time your child gets a grade below an average of your choosing.  Check it out!  It's a great way to stay informed with what's going on with your child's grades, and letting him/her know you care! :)
