  • Grading Scale:

  • Frequency of quizzes and tests – Students can expect to have at least one quiz every week and one exam every 2-3 weeks.

  • Daily Assignments 40% – (including homework) Daily assignments will be accepted up to 3 days late for 10 points off per day.  After 3 days, late assignments will be accepted up to 10 days after the due date, with the assignment graded, then reduced by 50%.

  • Major Assignments 60% – Major assignments (other than tests) will be accepted up to 3 days late for 10 points off per day.  

  • EOC - There will be one End Of Course exams per semester. These dates will be published as soon as dates are assigned by administration. EOC's count for 16% of a semester grade.

  • Make-up Work – It is the responsibility of the student to request and make up all work missed when absent. The student will have the same number of days to complete the assignment as the days he was absent. Make-up work not completed in the scheduled time will result in a zero or late grade on those assignments.

  • Retakes – Students are recommended to re-take any test that falls below an 80. The higher of the 2 scores will be recorded, not to exceed an 80. Timetable for retaking tests will be 10 school days from the day the grade is received (unless there is extenuating circumstances brought forth by teacher, student or guardian). Failure to abide by the imposed timeline will result in the original test score remaining in the gradebook.

  • Tutoring, Retakes, & Make-ups are available Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school from 4:30 – 5:00 or Friday mornings.

  • Agendas the daily objectives, homework and upcoming quizzes and test dates and content are written on Google Classroom daily.  It is the student’s responsibility to check the site to know what material is being covered in class daily, especially if the student is absent.

  • Projects – Students can expect to be assigned as many as one project per nine weeks to be completed at home for a daily or major grade depending on the complexity of the assignment.

  • Website – Students are highly encouraged to visit Sra. Rivera’s website often to check, vocabulary lists & grammar notes, the quiz/test calendar, and links to online resources.  

  • High School Credit – Spanish is a high school level course.  Semester exams will be given based on the high school model. At the completion of the course, students with a 70% in each semester or better average of will receive 1.0 credit. Please keep in mind that each semester stand alone and students need to score 70% or higher on both (separately) in order to be promoted to the next level.

  • Parent Connection - You can have instant access to your child's grades at any time by going to the Doerre website and clicking on the Parent Connection link listed on the side menu. Click on that link and follow the instructions to set up your Parent Connection account. If you have more then one child in Klein schools, you can set up access to each student’s grades here. You can even set up alerts so that the system sends you an email each time your child gets a grade below an average of your choosing.  Check it out!  It's a great way to stay informed with what's going on with your child's grades, and letting him/her know you care! :)

  • Remind.com – is a way for the teacher to send reminders to the parents about upcoming assignments or news via text messages.  Sign up by texting from your phone. See codes above.

  • Online Resources can be accessed through Sra. Rivera’s Doerre website at http://classroom.kleinisd.net/webs/mriverayanko1/links_page.htm , or just click on Sra. Rivera’s “Links Page” tab.

    • Google Translate - The use of Google Translate by Spanish 1 & 2 students is strictly forbidden both in class, and at home. Students are to use the vocabulary & grammar learned in class to complete all assignments.

    • Quia.com – Quia is a free website where students can play Spanish vocabulary and grammar games custom made just for them by Sra. Rivera.  Each student has set up his/her own account and “joined” my class online where they take practice/review quizzes and tests.  This is the site through which students take most Spanish tests and quizzes.  Parents can see their child’s completed tests and quizzes by logging on to this website using your child’s individual user name and password.  Please be sure to ask your child their user name and password.     • Quizlet.com – is another free interactive website where students can go to practice their vocabulary. They can access our customized, chapter vocabulary lists by searching “KISD Doerre (& title of vocabulary list”.  Here they can hear authentic pronunciation of vocabulary words, play review games and even take practice written, matching, multiple choice and true/false tests. They can also print vocabulary lists and even flashcards!  Setting up an account is NOT necessary to use the interactive features (except for printing) and access Sra. Rivera’s vocabulary lists.

    • Conjuguemos.com – is yet another free interactive website where students can look up the chapter we are working on by typing in the title of our book. Here they are able to play games, print flash cards and cross word puzzles. They do NOT have to set up an account.

    • Study Spanish.com – is a fabulous resource website.  Here students can find notes on all grammar lessons, vocabulary lists and even pronunciation drills.  Membership is not necessary as most of the resources can be accessed free of charge.  This website covers material from Spanish I – Spanish V and is a favorite with advanced Spanish students.
