Memory Songs

Each nine weeks we study a different song in-depth. This song is called our "Memory Song."

Kindergartners sing this Memory Song while keeping a slow steady beat and a fast steady beat.

1st graders build on what they learned in Kindergarten and not only sing the song while keeping a steady beat, but also sing the rhythm syllables of the song while keeping a steady beat. Beginning with the second nine weeks, 1st graders sing their Memory Song with solfegge syllabes and hand signs and also write their Memory Song on music staff paper. 1st graders also learn to play their Memory Song on glockenspiels - an instrument similar to a xylophone.

2nd graders, 3rd graders, 4th graders and 5th graders sing their Memory Song while keeping a steady beat, sing the rhythm syllables of the song while keeping a steady beat, sing the solfegge syllabes while using music hand signs, write the song on music staff paper and play the song on glockenspiels.

Studying a song in-depth like this helps us master many musical concepts!
