Welcome to Pony Reading! Pony Reading is a program designed to encourage students to develop a daily reading habit at home and reward reading milestones. This program is exclusively for the Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders at Hassler Elementary.

  • Program runs from September-April.
  • Students receive a reading chart in their Tuesday folder near the beginning of each month.
  • Students are encouraged to read about 15 minutes every day. This includes being read to, reading out loud, or reading alone.
  • Students color in one object for every 10 minutes of reading done outside of school.
  • Parents, please make sure to total the number of minutes read, sign the chart and return to the student’s teacher.
  • Students are asked to return the chart to their teacher by the 5th day of the next month. For example, the reading chart for September needs to be turned in by October 5.
  • Students are eligible to receive rewards for every 400 minutes of reading completed. Once a student reaches 1600 minutes they are eligible for the         end-of-year Pony Reading Party where ice cream will be served.

So grab a book, find a comfy place to read and join us for some reading fun this year! If you have any questions, please contact the librarian, Mrs. Landry at 832-484-7089 or email her at rlandry1@kleinisd.net. Happy Reading!
