Welcome to Lemm

Dear Lemm  Students and Parents,

It's a brand new year and we're very glad you're here!

There are a lot of great things about being a Lemm Lion!  Our faculty and staff work diligently to ensure that every student has a successful year.   We begin most days with an infectiously fun dance or cheer that gets our large muscles working and our blood pumping.  This warms us up for learning in ways that are interactive, engaging and meaningful.  Our teachers strive to provide instruction that meets individual student's needs and collaborate on a regular basis to accomplish that goal.

For older students Lemm has before and after school programs that enhance what is learned during the school day.  In the mornings students may wish to play a string instrument in the orchestra or sing in the choir.  Our Orf ensemble creates pulsating music with rhythm instruments such as drums and xylophones.   Or, a student might choose to learn more about exercise by joining our Running Club or dig into our Garden Club!  Lemm has a Chess Club, a Math Club and beginning this year we will have Reader's Theater and Kleinbots, a robot building club!  By joining the Lion Pride,  an after school service club, students initiate and carry out projects that benefit our school community.

Lemm's indefatigable PTO provides many entertaining events that raise funds to enhance instruction while providing children with warm school memories.  In September, we will have our first themed week, Friendship Week.   A Fall Festival, with hayrides, carnival booths, and a pumpkin decorating contest is planned for October.  Holiday parties, skating parties, a Talent show and many other happenings round out the school year and offer opportunities for our students and their families to celebrate together as a community.

My role at Lemm is to provide counseling services to individual students, or groups of students with a focus on enhancing learning skills or social skills.  I consult with parents and other professionals when needed and make an effort to be visible and accessible.  A  monthly, school wide learning activity, Future Ready, that focuses on college and career awareness is planned for this school year.  My hope is that our students will be even more motivated by thinking about where they hope their educations will lead and what it will  take to get there.  Lemm will continue with its No Place for Hate activities that encourage respect and understanding for all others. The  Nurtured Heart Approach, a method of helping students create and celebrate success, will be implemented by our faculty and staff this year. And a social and academic skills enhancement program called Second Step that was awarded to us by a grant from the Klein Education Foundation promises to bring our students to an even greater awareness of the importance of getting along with others and developing character traits essential for good citizens.

I hope you'll join me in celebrating all of the exciting possibilities offered this year at Lemm!

Sincerely,
Dana Towse-Paulk, M.Ed, LPC
